Exclusive HTC One M8 Android 5.0.1 Sense 6.0 Screenshots + Video

Few weeks have passed since last post with Android 5.0 + Sense 6.0 and now the time has come to reveal some new details regarding incoming update. Many of you remember that HTC had big problems on bringing new updates in the past, during last year situation have changed drastically. Now we see almost simultaneous releases for GPE and Nexus devices. Same story for the Sense based devices, Sense users started getting updates few weeks after GPE devices. HTC promised to bring Lollipop sweetness within 90 days on M8 and M7. So now, let take a look what they have done so far…

Last screenshots I posted in my twitter account were made on M8 device, which was running 4.0x ROM based on Android 5.0 (LRX21P), now we have new base. This time I had an opportunity to install 4.1x base running latest Android 5.0.1 (LRX22C) which fixed many nasty bugs. So what do we have now? (Tags were cleaned in terms of safety)

After device start we see notification that we are running test software and HTC will collect all necessary data. I don’t want to be traced! lol 😀  Blinkfeed doesn’t change much, so let go ahead!

Same situation we have for widgets and the main screen
And here we see some new Google apps (Docs, Slides, Sheets), they offer decent office experience. These apps already available over Play market, so you can try these apps right now.  You might ask me what the heck they did if nothing have changed? Well, here the answer, some areas were completely reworked, let’s start with notification area

As you can see, new notification area became more “material” and stock looking, which is, in my view, looks really nice! Now all notifications and quick settings are on the same page, so you  don’t have make one more click to activate quick settings. Just scroll down and you get them. Notifications also become available on lockscreen.

Another area which got completely new design is a multitasking.

Screenshot_2014-12-21-20-54-43 Here the same story as we have in notification area, HTC changed it to stock view, which is nice, but not informative as in the previous version. Highly questionable decision…

Another nice change can be seen in settings, here we can see search button, which allows to search all available options. Great feature which makes our life much easier in case we don’t know where to find specific feature.

91234Beside of that improvements, we are gonna see brand new feature which is called “Easy mode” here how it looks like

Screenshot_2014-12-21-12-54-37Screenshot_2014-12-21-12-55-32I decided to make a short video that shows how it works. Also you may notice how the new notification area and settings search are working. Everything runs fast and smooth, moreover we got latest Android L animations which makes the whole experience even better than it was before

Another footage here represents new features in Accessibility section, we can see new features called: “Color inversion”, “Color correction” and  “High Contrast text”

This is pretty much it. As you can see, it doesn’t bring tons of new features. But it does bring whole experience on the new level. Over 1500 new APIs, ART, Project Volta and other under the hood improvements of Android L gonna make M8 even better than it was.

I’m in love! Can’t wait till it come to the M8! But I wonder, will Google apps (such as the Play Store) have the colored status bar like in other lollipop devices?

    • Jay

Yes. It’s Google’s design language and all Google apps (YouTube et al) included are getting/have gotten the Material makeover.

      • Chris

Thays only if Google updated the app. So far they have updated most. But it only appears in 5.0 if you have 4.4.4 then you don’t get the colored status of AR

what he and everyone calls “material” I call it “painfully white and colorful”, are we all kids now? can’t we have the nice fluid animations in a darker palette?.. and I don’t mean that color inversion, because that’s all it is so it’s not the real deal

oh and what is that keyboard key at the bottom right corner? what does it do or what is it for?

    • Mariusz Symkow

IME switcher, instead of having a notification. Introduced in stock android in Lollipop.

      What are you referring to?

On the first part or the last bit?

        • Badelhas

The keyboard key, where did you see it?

          • м ч × Φ м α † ● s ı s

Ehrm, the screenshot that shows the keyboard (when searching the settings) and also in the videos –whenever the keyboard appears

    • Gee

I didn’t know only kids like white. Interesting…

      • Chris

You never were a kid before?

        • Fred Sandford

          AI confirmed.

      • м ч × Φ м α † ● s ı s

if you read propperly you’d see I mean white WITH COLOURS, not white alone.. usually kids are all about a bunch of bright colours on top of a completely white background, but even as a kid I didn’t like all that -I used to be darker and still am (not that I reject colours, I just favour dark tones and black or deep gray)

    • Chris

      Agreed. I prefer darker interfaces.

    • Kwesi

That keyboard thingy is for switching if you have multiple keyboards installed. It’s pretty simple compared to the old method of going to the notification panel to switch keyboards.

I feel ya here not because I agree but because I disagree. Android’s been about subdued darks and blues forever and I never liked it, so I’ve been feeling the pain. Now it looks like google is going all color which I’m happy about, but sorry for you man. I’m sure there’s enough fans that you can probably download a dark lollipop ROM within months of release.

thx, you’re surely right.. but with all the issues I recently learned lollipop has I think I’ll wait until they fix ’em

  • IS33D34DP30PL3

How did he get the test software?

  • lord_wenk

Easy mode is the feature that we’ve got from Sense 6 since latest update of Android 4.4

    • kwaku blackwell

Glad you noticed it. I did to. Nothing new.

  • Chris

Not sure about the notification pane. I get why some android fans get erections over the stock look but it just seems like a waste of space.

Still I’ve been a fan of HTC sense since the beginning with my EVO 4G back I will the day and sense 6 is the best one yet.

    • Diaz1999

Agreed! Loving my second-hand Sprint M7, has been tried CM, PA, Omni, but at the end of the day it’ll be back to stock 😀 #Sense6 #FTW !

  • Guest

Does it support the camera2 API/work with lcamera?

  • Ninjatogo

Wait, I also got that, “test device”, message when I converted my m7 to a developer edition. Is that how it’s supposed to be? Should I be worried? Been running it like this for a while now.

    • Klejdi90

Yes when its s-off it shows that. It is no problem 😀

  • dan stevens

Just giving you a heads up that this guy is stealing your photos and passing them off as his own on instagram. http://instagram.com/total_tech_media/ He has is account set to private but i have screenshots of him claiming these as his own

    • dan stevens

      here are the screen shots

      • LlabTooFeR

        Can you share them?

        • dan stevens

sorry i thought they posted earlier

  • HTC One M8 w/ Sense 6 + Lollipop = the fastest android smartphone of the market.

  • Jaydowg23

what about the dialer and contacts? are they still sense based or google’s version which, in my opinion, is a lot better (able to look up local businesses, etc and the contacts are a lot nicer looking)

  • Mohammed Ahmed

Hi there! Congrats for the update 🙂 and m sure its very nice.
What’s the use of “Easy mode” – who’d buy this $$$ phone for “easy usage”..
Battery performance is the most wanted feature of the hour and also, the apps in the background should shut when the user exits the app.
Thumbs up to darker themes and dialer’s new look.
    Waiting for the new updates.
    Peace! V

    • м ч × Φ м α † ● s ı s

apps use a LOT more battery when they’re ‘killed’ or purged and have to be completely re-launched several times, than staying dormant in the background with all the code already compiled and ready for use.. I thought everyone knew that, it’s been that way since ICS (and now it’s even better, with android mastering efficient RAM management more and more with each new version)

  • Will S.

I liked HTC Sense 4 the most, the newer versions have been getting duller with every update. Add some colour FFS.

    • StraightEdgeNexus

Sense 4 was the most criticized iteration, 3 was the best for its time.

      • Will S.

It’s pretty much the same thing, but after Sense 4 things have gotten flat and ugly.

        • StraightEdgeNexus

But then beautiful again with sense 6

          • Will S.

Dunno about beautiful, it still looks quite flat and ugly…The thing I find ugly about modern TW is that its a mixture of flat and skeuomorphism, the flat part looks totally out of place…

  • alias8

will multiple user accounts be supported on the one m7 and m8?

  • Dead Neji

that white interface has ruined htc sense

  • sisyphe

Unfortunately this is the worst form saw him on htc .. top bar is not full-screen, petty colors that do not need a drab and ugly
As well as the task manager is not full screen this disappointment fact that Android has become the worst 5 from any system and sense became so ugly

  • sisyphe

  • Badelhas

If the leaked images are true I am very sad to see sense looks exactly the same 🙁

  • Matt Broky

I like the new multitasking, very similar to Sense 4+ from the HTC One X (The M6 of HTC One). I’ve stuck with my One X as it was the best phone produced by HTC or any smartphone manufacturer. Here’s hoping M9 is as good and not backwards like M7 and M8.
